Biography of Oscar Micheli


Oscar Micheli was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on December 14 1972. He grew up in a musical environment and learned to appreciate music at a very young age. The rich cultural heritage of Dominican Republic played an important role in his development as a musician. At the age of ten he began his guitar lessons. Two years after, he began study piano and organ with Tania Báez and Milagros Beras, two of the leading piano teachers in Dominican Republic. Not long thereafter he was playing with several bands and even played some professional gigs as a guitar player, keyboards and Singer. In 1988 he won a Choir Dominico-Americano scholarship for his talent as a member of “El Coro Dominico-Americano”, conducting by Exal Rodriguez and Mario Martinez, leading choir conductor in Dominican Republic.

At the end of the 1995, Oscar, enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. to continue their studies, graduated of Jazz Composition and Arranger in 1999. From then on, he has been working with different local and international artists, among them, Patricia Pereyra, Guarionex Aquino, Tadeo de Marco, Chichí Peralta, Xiomara Fortuna, among others. He was Professor of the National Conservatory of Music and Piano instructor in Tecladisimo, conducting by Caonex Peguero Camilo.

Oscar Micheli next to three talented musicians, Peter Nova; bass, Jacques Martínez; guitar and Ely Vásquez; drums, they formed to. Oscar Micheli Group.. Together they participated in many local and international activities as the Heineken Jazz Festival of Casa de Teatro, in the Week of the Dominican Republic taken place in the cities of Miami, Florida and in the University of Brookhaven College, Dallas, Texas. As member of Patricia Pereyra’s band, he has participated in numerous presentations like the Dominican Jazz Festival next to Arturo Sandoval, Chucho Valdez, grupo Mezcla, Giovanni Hidalgo. He is a member of the wonderful group of “Iglesia Mas que Vencedores” with Juan Luis Guerra as Musical Director. At the beginning of 2004’, Micheli, recorded his first production “Swimming Notices”. in trio format next to 3 of great musicians, Guy Frómeta, on drums, Peter Nova and Gustavo (Cuquito) More, on bass. It counts of 6 pieces, composed by Micheli, and 3 pieces composed by, Rafael Solano, Sting and Penbiang Sang. It was presented on Thursday July 8 in the V festival of Jazz of Casa de Teatro, 04’, accompanied by Guy Frometa and Penbiang Sang. Oscar Micheli TRIO has been working in different scenarios, promoting his CD’s, participating this way in important events of Dominican Republic as the J&B Jazz Bar, the VI Dominican Republic Jazz Festival next to figures as Steve Khans, Ramón Vásquez, Guarionex Aquino, Fellé Vega, Néstor Torre, among others, having this way a great acceptance of the public lover of the music of the musicians.
